Superheroes Visit Children’s Health on Cape Day

On June 28th, Children’s Health in Dallas celebrated its annual “Cape Day” event, as part of National Superhero Day. The occasion encouraged patients to embrace their inner superhero and celebrate their own unique abilities. Each patient was given a special cape to wear for the day.

Miguel Solis’s five-year-old daughter Olivia, who received a heart transplant at just three months old, was among the participants. Her superpower of courage has been her guiding force throughout her journey with Children’s Health Hospital. According to her father, “Over the course of her past year, as we’ve learned more about Cape Day and knowing she got to pick her one superpower… courage was something that came up.” Olivia spent the day alongside superheroes like Batman and Ironman, engaging in activities such as cookie decorating and painting. She also enjoyed spending time with her friend Amelia, who also received treatment at Children’s Health. Olivia exclaimed, “Amelia and I are Superheroes because of our powers!”

Cape Day aims to recognize the strength and bravery of each child and family treated at Children’s Health Hospital. CBS News reporter Nicole Nielsen joined the news team in June 2020 and is excited to be working for the station she grew up watching.
