In May, the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation announced that defenseman Marcus Pettersson has been selected to represent Sweden in the upcoming IIHF World Championship tournament. At 27 years old, Pettersson is a seasoned international competitor for Sweden, having previously played in the IIHF World Championship tournaments of 2019 and 2022. This year, he set career highs in goals, assists, points, and average ice time per game while playing all 82 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
In addition to Pettersson, Seattle Kraken forward Andre Burakovsky was also named to Sweden’s roster for the tournament. The tournament will take place in Czechia from May 10-26. Erik Karlsson, Pettersson’s defensive partner this season, was also included on the roster.
