Lummus Technology, a leading global provider of process technologies and energy solutions, announced that IndianOil Corp. Ltd. (IOCL) has selected their cumene technology for a new unit in Paradip, India. This unit is part of a larger petrochemical and polymers expansion project at IndianOil’s complex. The decision to use Lummus’ cumene technology was based on the benefits it offers, such as lower energy costs, operational efficiency, and exceptional product yield.
Lummus Technology’s Chief Business Officer for Polymers and Petrochemicals, Romain Lemoine expressed excitement about working with IndianOil on this project and continuing their long-term relationship. The scope of Lummus’ involvement includes the technology license for cumene, basic design engineering, proprietary catalyst, site services, advisory services, and training.
IndianOil has previously licensed multiple technologies from Lummus including naphtha cracker, INDMAX FCC and polypropylene technologies. The partnership between Lummus and Versalis in licensing cumene technologies dates back to 2007. The cumene process uses a special zeolite catalyst and is known for its high cumene yield, purity of product and long catalyst run length.
