The Detroit High School Sports Awards, presented by Detroit Area Honda Dealers, has announced the nominees for the Hockey Player of the Year. This program is part of a nine-month student-athlete recognition initiative that aims to honor athletes, coaches, and teams from the greater Detroit region participating in sanctioned Michigan High School Athletic Association sports.
The winner of the Hockey Player of the Year will be revealed during a live show on June 18 at The Fillmore Detroit, in partnership with the U.S. Army. At the live show, nominees for other 28 sports will also be recognized, including Boys and Girls Athlete of the Year. Additionally, special awards for exceptional on- and off-the-field achievements will be presented, such as Courage Award, Coaches of the Year, Teams of the Year.
Nominated athletes who confirm their attendance will receive complimentary tickets to the event thanks to sponsors. Nominees can register for the show while guests of nominees can purchase tickets online.
Some of the nominees for Hockey Player of the Year include Will Barrett from Trenton High School, Joe Curtin from Novi Detroit Catholic Central High School, Garrett Dudlar from Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood School, Cam Duffany from Brighton High School and Nolan Galda from Novi Detroit Catholic Central High School along with John Kunz from Birmingham Brother Rice High School.
