Chicago’s Water Tower now houses a new exhibit that focuses on mental health and provides visitors with a unique exploration of their emotions. The 5,000-square-foot interactive art installation on the fourth floor of Water Tower Place was created by Janine Williams, who drew inspiration from her personal journey with mental health issues.
Upon entering the exhibit, guests are greeted with a disco ball dreamland featuring a 360-degree photo booth, setting the tone for the emotional journey they are about to embark on. At the heart of the exhibit is the interactive Mood Room, where visitors are guided through exercises meant to prompt reflection and emotional processing. Carefully curated colors throughout the space aim to influence and amplify emotional experiences.
Williams, who struggled with depression, wanted to create a safe and colorful space for individuals like herself to tap into their emotions in a fun way. The exhibit also features a Secret Garden for visitors to discover and Kites Ice Diner, showcasing the works of artist Kristopher Kites from Chicago’s South Side.
