A fire in Palm Desert earlier this month left four businesses destroyed, including D’Coffee Bouteaque and Papa Dan’s Pizza and Pasta. Despite reaching out to the owners for comment, News Channel 3 has not received a response.
One of the employees affected by the fire was Mary Saucedo, who had been working at D’Coffee Bouteaque until its destruction. She is now worried about her financial future as she has not been paid for her last pay period and is unsure how she will be able to pay her bills on time.
Ira Mosley, owner of Papa Dan’s Pizza and Pasta, is also facing financial challenges due to the fire. He has been covering all costs out of pocket and hopes that the insurance company will eventually reimburse him. Mosley expressed his concern for his long-term employees and understands that finding work in the desert during the slower summer months can be difficult.
Mosley plans to relocate his business to the same shopping center it was in before and hopes to reopen by October. To support his employees during this difficult time, he has started a GoFundMe campaign. Mosley is also abiding by both federal and California labor laws, ensuring that his employees receive their rightful pay.
Under federal labor law, employers must pay their workers regular wages for hours worked before a disaster, as well as any overtime at the appropriate rate. Additionally, California labor law mandates that employees must be paid at least twice each month on designated paydays. For more information on this ongoing situation, tune in to News Channel 3 at 6:00 p.m., when we will bring you a comprehensive report on this developing story.
