A-J readers, this week’s news was filled with exciting updates and new developments. On Wednesday, two new businesses opened their doors to the public. Cyrus Kabob launched their family’s Persian recipes at their new restaurant on 421 Frankford Ave., while Hairbreak Hotel unveiled their Elvis Presley themed hair salon at 2614 130th St., Unit 3., along with their exclusive line of beard oil.
In addition to these openings, Lil Homiez Barbershop and Salon joined the scene on Thursday at 5302 Ave. Q, Suite 17. Meanwhile, two articles from the business beat were published, one of which featured Dawna Gillespie of Dawna Gillespie Adornments. The article detailed how a metalsmithing class at Texas Tech propelled her towards becoming an internationally recognized designer.
Gillespie shared that the basis of her work is to represent human life, from soul to soul. By narrating her stories through the pieces, she can also illustrate that we are all unique individuals. I had the pleasure of speaking with Gillespie and even got to visit Ransom Canyon for the first time – a stunning location that left me in awe and made me wonder why it isn’t talked about more often. I highly recommend taking a drive out there whenever you get the chance.
The second major story of the week was the monthly business roundup for April, showcasing 15 entries including nine openings, two closings, and four upcoming/denied announcements. Looking ahead to next week, no concrete plans have been finalized yet, so I may circle back on some rumored establishments. Thank you for your continuous support and for reading the A-J!
