Vanderbilt University has appointed Tim McNamara as the dean of its College of Arts and Science. McNamara, a 41-year veteran of the university, has been serving as the interim dean for the college since July 2023. He will officially start his two-year term as dean on July 1.
Throughout his tenure at Vanderbilt, McNamara has been recognized for his strategic insights, collaboration, and dedication. He holds the Gertrude Conaway Vanderbilt Chair in Social and Natural Sciences and has served as a professor in the Department of Psychology. Additionally, he held administrative roles such as chair of the Psychology department and associate provost for faculty.
With his leadership qualities, McNamara is seen as the ideal candidate to guide the college through its exciting future. Cybele Raver, Vanderbilt’s provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, expressed confidence in his ability to lead the College of Arts and Science into a transformative phase of growth and progress.
