Health Officials in the US caution against fake Botox injections

In early November, more than 20 individuals in 11 states were affected by counterfeit Botox injections. These injections were administered by unlicensed or untrained individuals in settings such as homes or spas. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that half of these individuals required hospitalization.

Health officials have issued a warning regarding the counterfeit Botox injections that have caused serious illnesses. The CDC alerted doctors about this issue on Tuesday and stated that these injections were administered for cosmetic reasons. Six people have been treated for suspected botulism, a serious illness caused by botulinum toxin entering the bloodstream. Symptoms of botulism include double or blurred vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, and difficulty breathing.

The Associated Press Health and Science Department receives support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, with the AP being solely responsible for all content. It is important to receive injections only from licensed professionals and report any suspected counterfeit products to protect your health and well-being.
