In the third period, Kempf made a crucial save on a back-door attempt by Canada’s captain, keeping the U.S. within one goal. McKenna scored again to tie the game at 3-3 with just over nine minutes remaining. Canada then scored two quick goals on a major power play to take a 5-3 lead.
Despite being down by two goals with just over four minutes left in the third, the U.S. managed to pull within one goal with a goal from Zeimer. However, McKenna sealed the win for Canada with an empty-net goal in the final seconds.
