During the off-season, the Colts Pro Shop at Lucas Oil Stadium is open for fans to purchase Kicking The Stigma gear to support the Kicking The Stigma Action Grants. Items available for purchase include a hoodie with the message “Not All Pain Can Be Seen,” a tee that says “I Am Stronger than My Darkest Days,” as well as wristbands, pins, and tumblers.
Last week, the Indianapolis Colts, USA Swimming, and Indiana Sports Corp hosted an event called “Under The Surface” at Colts headquarters. This half-day event featured an activity fair and a panel discussion about the intersection of mental health and sports. Special guests included Olympic gold medalist Lilly King, U.S. swimmer Ashley Twichell, Colts Pro Bowl cornerback Kenny Moore II, and Colts Vice Chair & Owner Kalen Jackson.
The 150 local high school students involved in Bring Change to Mind (BC2M), a national organization with chapters in Indiana schools that aim to end the stigma surrounding mental illnesses, learned about mental health and sports while interacting with successful athletes and professionals in the field during this unique opportunity leading up to the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming taking place in Indianapolis this June. With the support of the Colts and other organizations, the conversation about mental health is being brought to the forefront and the stigma surrounding it is being challenged.
