In a recent interview with “Vogue,” Grammy-winning singer Celine Dion opened up about her ongoing battle with stiff person syndrome, or SPS. Diagnosed in December 2022, the rare neurological disease has left Dion unable to perform or go on concert tours. She has since been working tirelessly to manage her symptoms through athletics, physical therapy, and vocal treatments.
“I work on my toes, knees, calves, fingers, singing, and my voice,” Dion said in the interview. “I have to learn to live with this situation now and stop wondering why it happened. At first I asked myself: What did I do? But life doesn’t give us the answers.”
Dion also admitted that she is “hoping for a miracle” to cure her condition, but she is trying to accept it. The reason behind her illness remains unknown, and Dion says she has two options: either train like an athlete and work very hard or give up and let it be over. She chose to work with her whole body and soul with a medical team, determined to be the best she can be.
Despite the challenges of living with SPS, Dion credits her family’s love and support along with first-class medical care as helping her the most. She knows that many people who suffer from SPS may not have access to such resources or may not be as lucky as she is financially. However, she says that she wants to inspire others by showing them that no matter what obstacles they face in their journey towards recovery or healing process
