For several months, Russian forces have been targeting energy installations on Ukrainian territory, prompting Kyiv to adopt a similar strategy to slow down supplies to Russian military forces in Ukraine. In response to these attacks, Ukrainian drones have also been launched against Russian oil refineries and industrial facilities, causing significant damage.
In the Smolensk region of Russia, an oil refinery was attacked by drones, resulting in fires that destroyed part of the facility. The governor of the region confirmed the attack and reported that four drones were shot down by air defense forces. Additionally, a factory producing chassis for military equipment was also targeted by Ukrainian drones in the Smolensk region. The extent of the damage caused by these attacks is still unknown.
The Lipetsk Tractor Plant, part of the Tractor Plants machine-building group, has been producing chassis for military vehicles since 2004. This plant was also targeted by Ukrainian drones, resulting in multiple explosions in the industrial zone. Although authorities claim that the drones were shot down, residents reported seeing them flying overhead.
These coordinated drone attacks are part of Ukraine’s strategy to disrupt Russian military operations and slow down supply chains. By attacking energy installations and industrial facilities in Russia, Kyiv is demonstrating its willingness to escalate tactics in response to Russian aggression on Ukrainian territory.
