Training for Youth Mental Health First Aid in Windom: Boosting Mental Well-Being Through Skills-Building and Outreach

The Globe offers Youth Mental Health First Aid training

On April 20, the Cottonwood County Historical Society in Windom will play host to a training on Youth Mental Health First Aid. This training will be led by facilitators from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and is specifically designed for individuals who work with young people. The program will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be offered in Spanish to reach a broader audience.

The goal of this training is to equip attendees with the skills to recognize signs of mental illness, identify signs of substance use disorder, offer support during a mental health crisis, and engage in conversations with family and friends about mental health. It is intended for adults only and includes a light breakfast served at 7:30 a.m., as well as lunch provided for all participants.

Upon completion of the training, participants will receive a $25 gift card and a certificate of participation. The facilitators leading the training include an outreach project specialist and a Ph.D. student.
