On April 29th, Fort Hays State University will host a Science Café event featuring a presentation on “Endogenous retroviruses: Hidden hitchhikers and how they spread.” Sponsored by the Science and Mathematics Education Institute at FHSU, this event is open to the public and completely free of charge.
Dr. Eric Gillock, a professor of biological sciences at FHSU, will lead the discussion on these genetic parasites that make themselves at home in the genomes of most eukaryotic cells without invitation. Similar to unwanted houseguests, endogenous retroviruses are difficult to remove once they have settled in.
