Elizabeth Mynatt, Dean of Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University’s Boston campus, expressed the community’s deep sorrow over the passing of third-year student Griffin Loranger on April 15. The obituary for Loranger stated that he passed away at the age of 21. During his time at Northeastern, Loranger was pursuing a combined degree in computer science and cognitive psychology while also engaging in research projects and global opportunities, as mentioned in Mynatt’s email to students on the Boston campus.
While conducting research at the College of Science’s Kwon Research Lab for Low Vision and Brain Research, Loranger showcased his love for research. He also had a keen interest in history which he explored through a Dialogue of Civilizations program in London. Beyond his academic pursuits, Loranger was an IT Projects Intern at Sappi, where he demonstrated his technical skills and computing talents. He was also actively involved in various extracurricular activities such as working as a camera operator for Division I sporting events with Northeastern’s Athletic Department, being a member of the NUTV video production club, and enjoying playing mahjong with fellow students.
Friends who posted on the online obituary site remembered Loranger as a vibrant and humorous individual who brought joy and laughter to those around him, especially during his involvement with NUTV.
