The Capital Region has produced three men’s college lacrosse teams that will compete in the postseason. In NCAA Division I, the University at Albany men’s team secured a spot in the tournament after winning the America East championship and will face off against Sacred Heart at home on Wednesday.
In Division III, RPI and Union have earned berths in the national tournament. RPI, with a record of 16-2, secured an opening-round bye after winning the Liberty League tournament against RIT. They will host either St. Mary’s (Md.) or Farmingdale State on Saturday. Meanwhile, Union, with a record of 12-5, will host Stevenson (Md.) in a second-round tournament game on Saturday afternoon.
The Great Danes from Albany have been on a hot streak this season, winning four consecutive games and seven of their last nine. Their recent victories over Merrimack and Vermont earned them the home field advantage for their NCAA tournament opener against Sacred Heart on Wednesday night at Tomaselli Stadium. With only two teams managing to defeat RPI this season, they are looking forward to another chance to showcase their skills and compete for a championship title in front of their home fans.
