The Doenges Ford Indians will be hosting tryouts in downtown Bartlesville on May 16th, marking the start of summer. This year’s tryouts will be held at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium and will begin at 7:00 p.m. John Pannell, who has been the manager for the Indians for his 15th season overall, believes that playing for the team offers a unique experience that helps players grow.
Despite the trend of high school players choosing travel baseball or larger metro area teams, Pannell believes that playing for the Indians is a great opportunity to develop and improve as a player. He has seen many of his players go on to play college and even professional baseball after their time with the Indians.
The Indians finished 15-17-1 last year and will field a 19-and-under team this summer. They will also make trips to Arkansas and participate in the Glen Winget Tournament at home, in addition to regular season games.
