Sturgis Planning Commission Unanimously Approves Site Plan for New Cannabis Product Retail Store
On Tuesday, the Sturgis Planning Commission unanimously approved a site plan for a new cannabis product retail store. EAC Industries LLC officials presented the request to renovate and upgrade the property at 1640 S. Centerville Road, previously known as Retail Warehouse, into a retail cannabis establishment called Haze Sturgis.
The property was previously considered for a cannabis-based business in 2022, and a site plan review by another retailer was approved at that time. However, that project did not materialize, and now EAC Industries LLC is moving forward with plans to open a retail cannabis store. The developers intend to enhance the property by adding parking, an approved storm water management network, potentially expanding the existing building, and installing fencing around the east and south boundaries to prevent trespassing from nearby Walmart to South Centerville Road.
During the planning commission meeting, representatives of the project clarified that the business will only be a retail establishment, with no on-site growing or pre-production activities. Before a primary building permit can be issued, the city has granted a permit for the demolition of the residential building located at 1680 South Centerville Road, despite its address being 1674 South Centerville Road. The developers have agreements in place for the demolition of the structure.
Additionally, approval from the Michigan Department of Transportation is required for the existing driveway openings onto South Centerville Road before a building permit can be issued. Commissioner Buddy Denman was not present at the meeting. This site plan approval marks a significant step forward for the new cannabis business in Sturgis.
The approval of this site plan is significant because it marks another step towards legalizing marijuana use in Michigan. With this move by EAC Industries LLC to open Haze Sturgis in Sturgis, more people will have access to legal cannabis products than ever before.
The company aims to provide customers with high-quality cannabis products in a safe and regulated environment. They are committed to complying with all state regulations and ensuring that their store is run responsibly and efficiently.
Sturgis residents are excited about this news as they look forward to having access to legal marijuana products without having to travel far from home.
Overall, this site plan approval marks an important milestone for both EAC Industries LLC and Sturgis as they continue their efforts towards legalizing marijuana use in Michigan.
