FIGO and IJGO have released a new publication titled “Strengthening Global Health Systems: FIGO’s Strategic View on Reducing Maternal and Newborn Mortality Worldwide.” This paper, written by FIGO’s Committee on Health Systems Strengthening and Respectful Care, highlights the importance of strengthening health systems to achieve universal healthcare coverage and reduce maternal and newborn mortality rates globally.
Over the past twenty years, significant progress has been made in reducing maternal deaths worldwide. However, disparities in maternal and perinatal health persist, especially in low-income countries and within marginalized populations in high-income countries. The article emphasizes the need for a thorough understanding of the factors contributing to maternal deaths to develop effective policies and health programs that address the various challenges faced by women worldwide.
