Nottingham Forest’s appeal against four-point deduction rejected

Nottingham Forest have been unable to overturn the four-point deduction they received for breaching Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules, as an independent appeal board has upheld the decision. The club had hoped to argue that the commission made errors in not considering a player’s sale as a mitigating factor and in not suspending some or all of the points deduction, but these arguments were rejected by the Appeal Board. As a result, the club will remain on 29 points, just three above the relegation zone with two games left to play.

The Premier League issued a statement confirming that an independent Appeal Board had reviewed Nottingham Forest’s appeal and decided to uphold the original decision to deduct points from the club due to a breach of PSRs. The Appeal Board was chaired by Rt Hon Lord Dyson and included David Phillips KC and Daniel Alexander KC, both appointed by the independent Chair of the Premier League Judicial Panel.

In rejecting Nottingham Forest’s arguments, the Appeal Board determined that the independent Commission was justified in immediately imposing a four-point deduction. This decision is final and is not subject to further review or appeal within the Premier League or its member clubs.

The full written reasons for the Appeal Board’s decision can be found on the Premier League’s website.
