The FIDE World Chess Championship Match is the most prestigious event in the FIDE World Championship Cycle. The upcoming 2024 edition will determine the chess world champion for the next two years, with current world champion Ding Liren from China facing off against the youngest challenger in chess history, Gukesh D from India.
FIDE has announced that the 2024 World Chess Championship Match will be open for bids to host the event. Scheduled between November 20 and December 15, 2024, applicants interested in hosting must submit a bidding form detailing their budget breakdown and proposals for payment to FIDE by May 31, 2024. The minimum required budget for the event is 8,500,000 USD, with a minimum prize fund of 2,500,000 USD.
The regulations for the event must be approved by July 1, 2024 and have a total duration of up to 25 days. FIDE reserves the right to extend the deadline if necessary and may enter into additional negotiations to improve or modify the bid. The final decision by FIDE will be based on all proposed conditions and the interests of chess development.
