In the fall of 2024, the School of Agriculture and Aviation at Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa will be introducing a new animal science minor for students looking to pursue careers in animal health and welfare. This addition to the academic catalog will give students more career options and aligns with the university’s commitment to providing innovative academic programs that meet the needs of the Siouxland region.
Dr. Chris Spicer, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Morningside University, is excited about this new minor, highlighting the university’s dedication to offering interdisciplinary study options that prepare students for successful careers. Dr. Tom Paulsen, dean of the School of Agriculture and Aviation, emphasizes the hands-on learning experiences and industry partnerships that this minor will provide. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of animal biology, ethics, and technology’s role in animal science.
The animal science minor complements the various majors offered at Morningside University, allowing students to tailor their educational experience to their career goals. This addition reflects recent enhancements within the Regina Roth Applied Agricultural and Food Studies Department, such as building the Rosen Ag Center and developing Lags Farm – a 76-acre learning farm located near campus.
Prospective students interested in pursuing an animal science minor can contact Morningside University Admissions Office for more information on additional details, course requirements, and application information that can be found on their animal science webpage.
