Last week, Meta unveiled a new AI image generation tool called Imagine. This feature uses Meta’s AI model, Llama 3, to produce high-quality images that are sharper. The goal of Imagine is to encourage users to let their imaginations roam freely, with assistance from the company’s AI model.
Users can use Imagine to create images in real time by typing a prompt that describes the image they want to generate. Meta is currently testing this feature in beta on WhatsApp and the Meta AI website. As an added bonus, images can evolve with each typed letter.
Imagine relies on Meta’s latest open-source large language model, Llama 3, which is designed to enhance image quality and incorporate text into images more effectively. Once an image is generated, users can animate it, transform it into a GIF or apply new styles. In addition to Imagine, Meta introduced several other updates to its AI assistant such as providing tailored recommendations for dining or interior design inspiration.
Despite these advancements, Meta still has some catching up to do when compared with competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic. The company continues to refine its larger models of Llama 3 in order to improve their capabilities. According to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the future of AI at Meta looks pretty wild with models anticipated to rival those released by other companies earlier this year.
