The FTC ban on noncompete agreements has sparked debate among medical associations, with some supporting the rule and others divided on the issue. The Radiology Business Management Association and American College of Radiology have not issued a definitive stance on the matter, while the American College of Emergency Physicians supports the ban, arguing that such clauses are unfair and exploitative.
Bob Still, Executive Director of Radiology Business, acknowledged that this is a challenging issue for all physician groups. He noted that while younger radiologists may want more flexibility in their job options, older shareholders are concerned about practice valuations if physicians leave for new private equity firms. Dr. Ben White, a Texas neuroradiologist, and Dr. Nisha Mehta, a radiologist and founder of Physician Side Gigs, have also weighed in on the issue. Mehta pointed out that there are many nuances to consider when it comes to different employer types and physician roles, but the ruling will likely have a significant impact on physicians and their contracts in the future.
