The cancer treatment unit at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, Massachusetts has temporarily closed due to the suspension of infusion services by SMG Regional Hematology-Oncology. The closure is a result of the departure of the unit’s physician from the independent practice that operated within the hospital. However, both the radiation oncology and surgical oncology units are still open, and only outpatient services are affected by the closure. Inpatient infusion services remain unaffected.
The Department of Public Health is now referring patients seeking cancer treatment to other hospitals in Massachusetts. Steward Health Care, which owns Good Samaritan Medical Center, is currently facing a financial crisis that raises concerns about its future in the state.
