The German government is currently considering tightening the Cannabis Act retroactively to prevent the creation of commercial structures during cultivation. This move aims to prevent multiple cultivation associations from operating in the same place or building, thereby avoiding the emergence of additional business models around cannabis cultivation.
Since April 1st, Germany has allowed possession and controlled cultivation of cannabis for private use, but with restrictions. Public consumption is permitted to a limited extent, with a ban in the immediate presence of minors and near schools, daycare centers, and sports facilities. Despite this general release, the German railway system prohibits smoking weed at train stations and platforms. This ban is set to take effect in four weeks.
The prohibition does not affect the consumption of cannabis for medical reasons, which was permitted before its release. The adjustment to the railway’s house rules is expected to be completed within four weeks, with violations being pursued starting June 1st. This move is intended to protect travelers, especially children and young people, at train stations by aligning it with the legal ban on cannabis consumption in specific areas.
