Miami has been chosen as the destination for this year’s Fleet Week, which kicked off at the Frost Museum of Science on Sunday. Guests were treated to a free performance by the U.S. Navy Band, as well as an opportunity to meet sailors and Marines, and witness real K-9 training demonstrations.
Dr. Cassie Freund, director of science communication at Frost Science, expressed her excitement about having the Navy in Miami for Fleet Week. She emphasized the significance of their presence in a city located on the ocean, and highlighted their important role in the community. The Navy’s participation in demonstrating different types of science was also noted as valuable.
More than 3,000 members of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard are participating in Fleet Week in South Florida. The Navy has brought four ships to PortMiami for the event. This marks the first time in a long while that Fleet Week has taken place in Miami, making it a special occasion for both the military and local community alike.
