In a way-too-early mock draft from CBS Sports NFL Draft expert Ryan Wilson, it is predicted that Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders will be the top pick in the upcoming 2025 class. Sanders, who is son of NFL star and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, has been highly regarded for his potential as a top selection for the 2025 class. Although some experts say that he would have been a top choice had he entered the 2024 draft, others mention that they need to manage him differently due to his father’s involvement. However, all agree on his impressive skills and winning mentality.
Despite starting the season with a 3-0 record, Sanders’ Buffaloes struggled in 2023 and ended up losing seven of their final eight games. The offense led by Sanders averaged an impressive 30.8 points per game but was hindered by a defense that gave up an average of 38 points per game. Prior to moving to Colorado with his father, Sanders had more success at Jackson State. Despite not entering the 2024 draft, he was highly regarded by NFL evaluators and considered a first-round pick if he decided to go through the process.
While it is unlikely that Sanders would have surpassed Caleb Williams as the top quarterback in the 2024 class, he has demonstrated his talent on the field during his time at Jackson State and Colorado. He showcased his passing ability by completing high percentages of throws with good touchdown-to-interception ratios. Along with highly regarded Travis Hunter, Sanders joined his father at Colorado where he continued to impress with his skills at the Power 5 level.
