Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has announced new arrests related to the ongoing corruption scandal involving the state oil company PDVSA. One of the individuals arrested was Colonel Marino Lugo, who was found dead in his cell, with authorities suspecting it to be a suicide.
Colonel Lugo had been wanted in connection with the PDVSA-Cripto case, which has led to the arrest of over 54 individuals, including former Ministers of Oil and Economy. He was facing charges of various crimes such as embezzlement, money laundering, and association.
The Public Ministry reported that an autopsy was conducted on Colonel Lugo’s body to determine the cause of death. However, details about when he was detained were not specified. Previous arrests in the case had been marred by the deaths of two detainees, one due to suicide and the other due to illness. The investigation into the corruption scandal continues, with authorities working to hold those involved accountable.
