On Thursday, the Buffalo Bills made significant moves to strengthen their defense by signing two defensive tackles to one-year deals. The newest members of the team’s defense are DeShawn Williams and Austin Johnson.
DeShawn Williams, a 31-year-old veteran, had an impressive 2023 season with the Carolina Panthers, recording 33 total tackles, seven quarterback hits, and a sack. Prior to joining the Panthers, Williams spent three seasons with the Denver Broncos, where he recorded 4.5 sacks as a defensive end in 2022. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2015 and played in four games during the 2016 season.
On the other hand, Austin Johnson was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2016 and started 17 games for the Los Angeles Chargers last season, finishing with 46 total tackles and a forced fumble. This will be Johnson’s second season in L.A., and he will now be joining forces with former teammate DaQuan Jones, who also played for the Titans.
The signings of Williams and Johnson add depth to the Buffalo Bills’ defensive line and bring experience to the team. Both players will be looking to make an impact and help the Bills improve on defense for the upcoming season.
