Residents of rural communities in Robstown and the surrounding areas have long faced challenges in accessing healthcare services. This is due to the limited hours of operation at the Johnny Calderon Building, which only offered services on Tuesdays and Thursdays. However, officials are now working to expand these services to make them more readily available, especially for those living in rural areas.
The Nueces County Director of Health and Wellness, Xavier Gonzalez, emphasized the importance of increasing access to healthcare for individuals in outlying areas. He explained that the Public Health Services at the Johnny Calderon Building will soon be operating from Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with plans to finalize a contract with a new vendor, Amistad, to provide these important healthcare services.
Joe Gonzalez, Nueces County Commissioner Precinct Two, highlighted the county’s efforts to improve healthcare access in rural areas. With the success of the Operation Health and Wellness Program, officials have identified a significant need for expanded healthcare services in these communities. As a result, plans are moving forward to increase the availability of Public Health Services at the Johnny Calderon Building starting October 1st.
This expansion aims to address the needs of the community and provide essential healthcare services to those who require them. By making these services more accessible, residents of rural areas will no longer have to face long drives to reach the nearest health department. Instead, they will be able to receive vital medical care right in their own backyard.
