A senior at Kansas Wesleyan University, Aubreigh Heck, has been invited to participate in a breakout session at the Kansas Collegiate Media state convention on April 22 at Wichita State University. The panel discussion will focus on the importance of covering local sports, specifically high school sports, and how some of the best and most rewarding sports journalism is carried out at the local level.
During the session, Heck will share her insights on covering sports as a woman and discuss the challenges she has faced while covering high school sports in Hutchinson and Salina. As an editor-in-chief at KWU Student Media and a double major in Communications and Public Relations, Heck has gained valuable experience in the field of sports journalism.
Joining Heck in the session are other panelists such as Scott Paske from the Kansas State High School Activities Association and formerly of The Wichita Eagle, Charles Chaney from The El Dorado Times-Gazette, and Joel Muhs from The McPherson Sentinel. Together they will provide a comprehensive view of the importance and challenges of covering local sports in journalism.
