On April 16, a group of armed individuals broke into the main bank branch in Gaza City through a hole in the ceiling and stole safes containing approximately 2.8 million euros. The following day, they returned to the bank and detonated three more safes, stealing about 29 million euros. By the end of the week, the total amount stolen by these robbers had reached 33.6 million euros.
The robberies have raised concerns about security in the Gaza Strip as armed groups continue to engage in criminal activities such as bank robberies. The Bank of Palestine is now working to address vulnerabilities that allowed these incidents to occur and ensure the safety of their assets and personnel in the future.
According to a report from French newspaper Le Monde, Palestinian armed groups involved in these robberies included one pretending to be Hamas. This has further highlighted the need for increased security measures in Gaza Strip to prevent such incidents from happening again.
