Aldi is set to open a new store in Allegheny Township, adding to the growing number of businesses in Hyde Park Plaza. The grocery giant’s expansion efforts have led to the addition of new stores and restaurants in the area.
Hyde Park Plaza has been expanding since Jeff Paul acquired the property in September 2022. The plaza now boasts 16 storefronts and 564 parking spaces, with Ollie’s Bargain Outlet and Dollar Tree being among its newest additions.
Currently, Giant Eagle is the only supermarket operating in Allegheny Township. The planned store by Aldi will be part of their goal to add 800 new stores by the end of 2028. Jamieson Morabito, a township supervisor who has been actively working to attract new businesses since joining the board in January 2022, has played a key role in securing Aldi’s interest in the area.
Morabito spent considerable time providing Aldi with traffic and demographic data to help persuade them of the township’s potential as a business-friendly location. Despite Allegheny Township’s relatively small population of 8,000, Morabito was able to advocate for its potential as a location for new businesses. With larger anchors like Aldi on board, vacancy rates are expected to decline further signaling a promising future for businesses in the area.
