The 13th edition of The World Games will be held in Karlsruhe, Germany in 2029. This marks the first time that the city has hosted the event twice, having previously organized it in 1989. Karlsruhe has a long history of hosting major international sporting events, and this latest announcement is a testament to its commitment to sports and athletics.
The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) nominated Karlsruhe to host the IWGA flagship event, which will take place in the summer of 2029. Located in south-western Germany, near the French border and at the heart of Europe, Karlsruhe is an ideal location for such an event. This latest announcement comes 40 years after the city hosted The World Games in 1989.
Karlsruhe’s strong commitment to The World Games was emphasized by IWGA President José Perurena, who expressed gratitude for the excellent conditions provided for athletes in past events in Karlsruhe and Duisburg. Around 3,000 world-class athletes from over 100 countries and regions will compete in about 35 sports during the 13th edition of The World Games.
