Phoenix Science Center to Host Free Eclipse Viewing Event

Arizona Science Center in Phoenix is hosting a free viewing party for the total solar eclipse that will occur on Monday, April 8. This rare astronomical event happens when the sun and moon cross paths, causing darkness to fall upon the Earth. Phoenix residents will have the opportunity to witness 64% coverage between 10:08 a.m. and 12:35 p.m., with peak coverage at 11:20 a.m.

The Science Center, located downtown at 600 E. Washington St., will kick off the viewing party at 9 a.m. on the day of the eclipse. Throughout the day, visitors can participate in solar-based activities and educational opportunities offered by the Science Center. Telescopes will be available for sky gazing, and interactive activities will help attendees learn more about this unique celestial event. It is essential to wear solar eclipse glasses to protect your eyes from potential sun damage when watching the solar eclipse.

Apart from Arizona, some areas of the Southwest, including Texas, will also experience a total solar eclipse during this event. NASA is launching three rockets during the eclipse to study its effects on Earth’s atmosphere.
