During Donate Life Month in April, the UVA Health Transplant Center created a stunning display of approximately 1,300 colorful pinwheels outside of its West Complex to celebrate the gift of life provided by organ donation and transplantation. As Virginia’s only comprehensive transplant center, UVA Health has been providing life-saving organ transplants for over 50 years, with over 7,000 organ transplants performed since its establishment. This event served as a reminder of the impact of organ donation and transplantation on saving and improving the lives of patients.
The focus during Donate Life Month was on the importance of living kidney and liver donations in helping the thousands of individuals on waiting lists for transplants across the country. For those interested in becoming a living donor, UVA Health’s living organ donation page provided valuable information and resources. By becoming a living donor, individuals could make a significant difference in the lives of those in need of organ transplants.
The pinwheel garden served as a symbol of hope and renewal, highlighting the importance of organ donation and transplantation in saving lives. The garden will be on display through May 1st, reminding everyone of the vital role that UVA Health plays in providing life-saving organ transplants to patients in need.
