US Continues Efforts to Limit Technology Transfer to Russia for Weapons

American companies are being urged by the United States to stop shipping goods to more than 600 foreign entities due to concerns that the items could be used by Russia in its invasion of Ukraine. This directive was issued by the Commerce Department after recent discoveries of American-made products in missiles and drones recovered in Ukraine, believed to have been left behind by Russia.

Since 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine, the U.S. and over 30 other nations have implemented sanctions to restrict access to Western technology and hinder Russia’s military capabilities. However, despite these efforts, American components continue to be found in Russian weaponry on Ukrainian battlefields.

Assistant Secretary Matthew Axelrod announced this directive during the Commerce Department’s annual export control conference. He mentioned that letters were sent to over 20 American companies listing over 600 foreign parties that pose a high risk of transshipments to Russia. In these letters, companies were asked to voluntarily halt shipments to these entities in order to prevent potential use by Russia.

Senior officials from the Commerce, State, and Treasury departments have also been engaging with leaders in U.S. companies directly to discuss additional measures that can be taken to prevent their products from being used by Russia in any capacity. This collaborative effort aims to further impede Russia’s military actions in Ukraine by restricting the availability of American technology.

The U.S government is taking proactive steps to ensure that its technology does not fall into the hands of those who would use it for nefarious purposes such as war crimes against innocent people.

In conclusion, the United States is doing everything within its power
