Sols 1320-1322: Excavating at Lubango

Yesterday, as the GSTL, I had the thrilling experience of drilling a new sample on Mars. Our day began with a detailed plan that included not only the main drill activities but also several targeted science blocks. These blocks would help us analyze and characterize the drill location, as well as search for potential drill sites on unaltered Stimson bedrock.

During the first sol, we carried out several Mastcam multispectral characterizations of the drill hole to gather color information that would help distinguish between altered and unaltered bedrock. We also created several Mastcam mosaics to provide a comprehensive view of the surrounding area. Additionally, we planned to assess a fracture that cuts across an impact crater using a small mosaic. Furthermore, we scheduled ChemCam targets to assess the block we were drilling and potential future sites.

As part of our second sol plan, we added an additional target to assess unaltered Stimson bedrock. We are excited about this campaign and eagerly anticipate discovering more about the Martian terrain through our scientific investigations.
