The University of Houston has decided to defy the NFL and the Tennessee Titans by going with an alternate Columbia Blue color scheme, despite being advised against it last year. Athletic director Chris Pezman announced the final decision after thorough consideration of all aspects of the situation.
The school has notified the NFL of their intention to use the alternate color scheme, but as yet, there has been no response from the league. Pezman stated that they are giving the NFL a few weeks to respond before taking any further action. The university believes they have a solid justification for their decision and are prepared to defend their position.
Pezman explained that they have evidence showing that the city uses the alternate color scheme, making their decision justified. The university’s proximity to the Texans, who recently introduced a uniform with a similar color, also supports their case. It is unlikely that anyone would have intellectual property rights over a color, and it would not reflect well on the NFL if they were to take legal action against the University of Houston over this matter.
