Freshman UConn guard Stephon Castle announces his entry into the 2024 NBA Draft

After a standout season with the UConn Huskies, 19-year-old guard Stephon Castle has announced his decision to enter the 2024 NBA Draft. The freshman from Covington, Georgia, was a key contributor to the team’s success, averaging 11.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3 assists per game. His performance was instrumental in helping the program secure a second consecutive national title.

Castle’s decision to declare for the draft makes him only the second “one-and-done” player in UConn history, following in the footsteps of Andre Drummond, who was drafted ninth overall in 2012. The guard was a five-star recruit and McDonald’s All American and earned the title of Big East’s Freshman of the Year during his time at UConn.

During the 2023-24 season, Castle elevated his game in crucial moments, scoring 21 points in the Final Four victory over Alabama and adding 15 more in the championship game against Purdue. His contributions, along with those of teammates Donovan Clingan and Alex Karaban, have fueled anticipation for the upcoming NBA Draft. While Clingan has also declared for the draft, Karaban has chosen to maintain his college eligibility.
