On May 2nd, we celebrate World Password Day, a day dedicated to promoting best practices in terms of online security. Passwords are essential in safeguarding our data from cybercriminals, and it’s crucial to ensure they are as secure as possible. One common mistake people make is using the same password for all their accounts, making them vulnerable to attacks. According to Google, at least 65% of people use identical passwords on multiple sites, if not on all, making it easy for passwords to be cracked.
Veronica Pace, head of marketing at Trend Micro Italia, shared her top tips and tricks for creating strong passwords. Firstly, avoid using letters and numbers in sequence or easily guessable information like your date of birth. Instead, combine letters, numbers, and symbols to form a password of at least eight characters. Don’t use personal information or common passwords and make each one unique. Consider using long passphrases with numbers and symbols. Avoid changing just one character each time a password is updated. Lastly, utilize a password generator and manager and avoid writing them down on physical notes.
