Newark Liberty International Airport has been named the world’s best new airport terminal by Skytrax, a global airport evaluation firm. This recognition came after Terminal A received a five-star rating from Skytrax following an audit of its facilities, operations, and customer service. The award was presented at the Passenger Terminal Expo & Conference in Frankfurt, Germany, marking the second consecutive time the Port Authority received this honor, with LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B winning in 2023.
Terminal A opened in 2023 after the closure of the 50-year-old former Terminal A. The new terminal, which cost $2.7 billion, represented the Port Authority’s largest-ever single investment in New Jersey and the state’s largest design-build project. This investment is part of a $30 billion project to transform major airports in the New York and New Jersey metro area, with the next phase focusing on redesigning Terminal B at Newark’s airport.
The evaluation process for the award included surveys to passengers about terminal facilities, staff service, check-in, arrivals, transfers, security, customs, and shopping. The results showed that Terminal A provided excellent customer service and had top-notch facilities that met or exceeded passenger expectations.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy praised the recognition stating that it was a well-deserved honor for the ongoing renaissance at Newark Liberty International Airport. He commended all those involved in designing and building Terminal A for their hard work and dedication to creating an exceptional travel experience for passengers.
