Peachtree Corners, Georgia is a bustling city with over 62,000 cars traveling on Peachtree Parkway daily. However, it’s not just cars that use this road. On Saturdays, about 600 bicyclists cross this busy roadway. Assistant City Manager Brandon Branham highlighted the importance of road safety for all users, especially for vulnerable ones like pedestrians and cyclists who may encounter vehicles at intersections.
To ensure their safety, the city has been testing cutting-edge technology at its Curiosity Lab, including equipment that can alert both cyclists and drivers about potential collisions in advance. One such technology being tested is the Spoke Companion App, which allows cyclists and drivers to be alerted to each other’s presence on the road. This proactive approach aims to prevent accidents and save lives.
The city plans to put this technology to the test during a pro cycling race event this weekend by focusing on improving safety for all road users. While acknowledging that this technology is still evolving, the city is exploring additional ways to alert drivers and cyclists to potential dangers, including digital signage. The ultimate goal is to reduce fatalities and create a safer environment for everyone on the road.
