A fire in an apartment building in Techentin has left all 13 residents homeless. The fire broke out at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening at a house on “Am Umspannwerk” street. It is suspected to be a serious case of arson, and the police are currently investigating.
Fortunately, all 13 tenants were able to escape unharmed thanks to the efforts of rescue workers. Firefighters from surrounding volunteer fire departments, totaling 75 comrades with 15 vehicles, were on the scene to combat the major fire. Despite ongoing efforts, the cause of the fire remains unknown, but authorities estimate material damage to be around 800,000 euros.
This incident marks another in a series of fires that have occurred in Techentin and nearby Ludwigslust in recent years. Just a few days earlier, there was another fire at the training ground of the Techentin Fire Department. The authorities suspect arson in these cases due to lack of other explanations and ruled out technical defects as potential causes.
The police continue their investigation into these incidents as the community of Techentin faces challenges related to rebuilding and supporting displaced residents in finding new homes.
