The finalists for Upstate high school boys athlete of the week from April 29-May 5 have been announced. Polls will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday and multiple votes are allowed. Carson Boleman from Southside Christian pitched a complete game and struck out 17 batters in a 6-3 baseball playoff win against Lewisville, making him one of the top contenders for the title of athlete of the week.
Wilfer Bustamante from J.L. Mann scored two goals in a 3-2 soccer victory over Clover in the Upper State semifinals, showcasing his impressive skills on the field. Chansen Cole of Boiling Springs pitched a shutout, allowing only four hits and striking out seven batters, and also scored the winning run in a 1-0 win against Woodmont, earning him recognition as well.
Erik Erlenkeuser from T.L. Hanna shot 68 for medalist honors in the Region 1-AAAAA golf tournament, demonstrating his expertise on the course. States Farr from Spartanburg homered, drove in three runs, scored two runs, and had two walks in a 7-1 victory against Rock Hill, making him another strong candidate for athlete of the week honors.
Liam Montes from St. Joseph’s scored four goals in an 8-0 soccer win against Bamberg-Ehrhardt and Brody Pike from Powdersville scored eight goals and had three assists in three soccer victories, making them both standout performers during that time period as well
