On April 6, 2024, the School of Public Health celebrated its new home in the renovated Edna S. Brigham Building with joy and pride. The occasion was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and opening remarks from University leadership.

President Sandoval warmly spoke about the School’s impact in the community and emphasized its role in preparing students to take on leadership roles in the future of public health for Nevada and beyond. He highlighted the School’s influence on policy, systemic changes, health program development and evaluation, wide-scale services, and innovative research.

Dean Akpinar-Elci reflected on her journey as leader of the school since Fall 2021 during her address on Thursday. She expressed gratitude for the collaborative effort that brought the shared vision to life. She remarked that today they were not just celebrating bricks and walls but people who went above and beyond to assist them in creating this space where passion meets purpose. These people share their dream. The new home in the Brigham Building represents a significant milestone for the School of Public Health, providing a dedicated space for students, faculty, and staff to continue their important work in promoting public health and making a positive impact in the community.
