The Colorado Rockies faced a difficult situation during their recent game as they tried to prevent five runs from being scored in the bottom of the ninth inning. Unfortunately, they were unable to do so and now hold an undesirable record. With a current record of 7-22, the Rockies have struggled to maintain a lead in games. Their last game where they led for the entire game was back in September 2023 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Starting pitcher Elehuris Montero had a strong showing, pitching eight innings of shutout baseball. However, it was in the bottom of the ninth inning that proved to be their downfall. Despite a promising first-inning rally that scored five runs, the Rockies couldn’t hold on for the win. Relief pitcher Justin Lawrence struggled, allowing a flurry of hits and runs that resulted in extra innings. Ultimately, a double and single in the tenth sealed their fate.
The Rockies can technically say they never trailed during the game, but unfortunately, this loss still counts against them. After a disappointing season in 2023 and an underwhelming offseason, expectations were low for the team. However, despite these challenges, they continue to play with determination and hope to turn things around soon.
