Clean technology manufacturing is a rapidly expanding sector that governments and firms worldwide are eager to carve out their roles in. As policymakers devise new industrial strategies to enhance energy security and combat climate change, there is a growing sense of urgency to embrace clean technology manufacturing. In response to this, the Energy Technology Perspectives Special Report has been prepared to assist decision-makers in developing and evaluating their strategies for this sector.
The report outlines guiding principles that can inform future planning in clean technology manufacturing. These principles were developed in response to a request from G7 Leaders in 2023 and draw on insights gathered during a High-level Dialogue on Diversifying Clean Technology Manufacturing held at the IEA headquarters in Paris in November of the same year. The report also leverages analysis conducted as part of the latest edition of the IEA’s flagship technology publication, Energy Technology Perspectives, as well as two Special Briefings on clean technology manufacturing throughout 2023.
Recognizing that a one-size-fits-all approach is not feasible, the report emphasizes the importance of tailoring strategies to local conditions and priorities. It highlights the need for collaboration between governments, firms, and other stakeholders to achieve shared goals in this sector. Additionally, the report underscores the importance of investing in research and development to drive innovation and overcome technical challenges associated with clean technology manufacturing. Overall, the Energy Technology Perspectives Special Report provides valuable guidance for decision-makers looking to navigate this rapidly evolving sector.
